Sri Lanka Rugby team will be represented by a Men’s team at the 19th Asian Games 2023 which will take place in Hangzhou, China. Chief National Selector, Asoka Jayasena speaking to Daily FT said “We will need to select the national team very soon with the performances of the overseas performance of our players plus some good players identified at the Mercantile Rugby Sevens which concluded recently.

Further it is very likely that the National rugby team will participate under the National Olympic flag at the 19th Asian Games Rugby sevens. Asian Games is considered as the International Olympic Committee flagship event held in Asia. NOC headed by Subramaniam recognised the SLR officially appointed in voting, Rizly and his committee not the Stabilisation committee.

It’s not clear if Sri Lanka would send a Women’s outfit for this event as the girls had not trained for the last 2 months. The final slot will have 12 players and three officials for the rugby sevens (Men’s) and equal number of Women’s (if sending) with the tickets being sponsored by the Sports Ministry.
