Sri Lanka Under-19 Women’s Captain Manudi Nanayakkara played lone hand for 33 |
Chamudi Munasinghe celebrates Indian wicket on her way to 3-wicket haul |
India beat Sri Lanka by four wickets in a Super Four match yesterday to qualify for the final of the Under-19 Women’s Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur.
In the final, India will meet Bangladesh who defeated Nepal by nine wickets in another Super Four game reduced to 11 overs a side due to rain.
Sri Lanka managed only 98-9 in their 20 overs with skipper Manudi Nanayakkara once again putting her hand up to play a responsible innings of 33 off 30 balls (1 four 2 sixes) and Sumudu Nisansala contributing 21 off 31 balls (1 four).
Sri Lanka failed to build any big partnerships and the captain eventually ran out of partners.
Aayushi Shukla really broke the back of the Sri Lanka batting with some exceptional bowling ending with figures of 4/10 off 4 overs. She had the support from the other bowlers as well.
India stuttered in their run chase losing their first two wickets for 5 runs before a 63-run partnership off 44 balls between G. Kamilini (28 off 26 balls, 3 fours, 1 six) and Gongadi Trisha (32 off 24 balls, 2 fours, 3 sixes) steadied their innings.
But once the stand was broken Sri Lanka again put the pressure back on India by grabbing four wickets for 20 runs to reduce them to 88-6. However, V Mithila (17*) in the company of Aayushi (1*) saw India home with more than 5 overs to spare. What was noticeable was the out fielding of the Sri Lankans which was very encouraging.
The final will take place on Sunday.
