Sri Lanka has left out all-rounder Dunith Wellalage from the 16-man squad named for the tour to New Zealand for a 3-match T20I series starting later this month.
Wellalage was part of the Sri Lanka squad that played New Zealand in 2 T20Is at home last month.
Other than for Wellalage’s exclusion the rest of the squad remains the same as the one that drew the 2-match T20I series with New Zealand at home.
Wellalage who also figures in Sri Lanka’s ODI squad injured his bowling hand while playing for Jaffna Titans against Hambantota Bangla Tigers in the Lanka T10 Super League match at Pallekele yesterday.
Sri Lanka also suffered another blow when Dinesh Chandimal who has been named in the T20I squad to New Zealand was forced to retire hurt while batting for Kandy Bolts in their Lanka T10 Super League Eliminator match against Galle Marvels at Pallekele. Chandimal left the field with his score on 30 feeling some discomfort in his right shoulder.
The team is due to leave for New Zealand on Friday. The T20I series commences on 28 December. The T20I series will be followed by a 3-match ODI series.
