Sri Lanka has pruned its Under 19 squad of 26 players to 20 from which the teams will be picked for the upcoming five-match Under 19 ODI series against Bangladesh starting in Dambulla on 15 October.
The squad of 20 led by Josephian all-rounder Dunith Wellalage includes Sadeesh Jayawardena (St. Joseph’s College, Colombo), Ryan Fernando (S. Thomas’ College, ML), Sadisha Rajapaksa (Royal College, Colombo), Shavon Daniel (St. Joseph’s College, Colombo), Harindu Jayasekera (St. Thomas’ College, Matara), Jeewaka Shasheen (Devapathiraja College, Galle), Pawan Pathiraja (Trinity College, Kandy), Vinuja Rampo (Nalanda College), Lahiru Dewatage (St. Peter’s College, Colombo), Malsha Tharupathi (Madampagama, Ambalangoda), Traveen Mathews (St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota), Sasanka Nirmal (Devapathiraja College, Galle), Yasiru Rodrigo (S. Thomas’ College, ML), Danal Hemananda (St. Peter’s College, Colombo), Matheesha Pathirana (Trinity College, Kandy), Raveen de Silva (Nalanda College, Colombo), Chamidu Wickramasinghe (St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota), Wanuja Sahan (St. Peter’s College, Colombo) and Lahiru Abeysinghe (St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota).
The 20 players along with the support staff have gone into quarantine in their hotel in Dambulla till 10 October after which they will undergo a PCR test before commencing practices at the Rangiri Dambulla Cricket Stadium.
The six players who were left out of the squad namely Abhishek Liyanarachchi (D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo), Pawan Sandesh (Devapathiraja College, Galle), Matheesa Weerasingha (Maliyadeva College, Kurunegela), Vibahavith Ehelapola (Trinity College, Kandy), Bawantha Jayasinghe (Thurstan College, Colombo) and Maleesha Silva (St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy) will be training in Colombo under coach Dhammika Sudarshana. They have been given the option of playing domestic cricket as well. – (ST)
