Sri Lanka’s first-ever premier league badminton competition today

BAD Club has been continuously engaged in developing and nurturing badminton by taking the game into an untapped market. BAD Club created a platform to improve the badminton skills, competences and competitiveness of the badminton enthusiasts who do not have the luxury of competing in national/mercantile-level competitions due to the current gap of opportunities in the local badminton arena. With this broad vision, BAD Club introduced number of initiative that helps to increase the competitiveness of the game.

The BAD Club initiated its operations in 2016 with the vision of empowering players who regularly interact with the game, even though they are not amongst the top ranking national players. Monthly interactions were developed and ranking system among the members has been establish in order to maintain the momentum and competitiveness among the members. Further inter-club badminton team events and other open tournaments have also been organised to provide more opportunities for the players to reach their true potential. 

Also as a high-calorie burning exercise, badminton helps to stay fit via enhancing the stamina and physical fitness of the players which enables them to stay healthy. Further, The BAD Club has been able to develop a friendly culture and inter-personal relationships between the members whereas they can come and enjoy the 2-3 hour sessions that they play.

In line with the current trend, they are in the process of organising a Premier League Badminton Contest. Premier badminton accessories provider Yonex Sunrise Sri Lanka together with Sri Lanka’s fastest-growing badminton concept store Eliteshuttler have become title partners for this inaugural contest. 

More than 45 players (representing three badminton clubs) were sold among 4 franchises on 7 January in the Official Bid at the Chen Active Centre, Maharagama. The tournament will be held on 14 January from 8 p.m. to 11.30 p.m. at the same venue.

Badminton has become a fast-growing sport among working professionals in search of way to maintain physical stamina and manage work stress. The BAD Club has created a platform for all entire badminton enthusiasts to actively engage with the game. 

This particular contest will be the very first initiative of its kind organised locally.
