Sri Lanka team for the Hong Kong International Cricket Sixes 2024


  •  Hopes of repeating success of 2007

One-time winner and two-time runner-up Sri Lanka left with a seven member team for the 20th Hong Kong International Cricket Sixes in Hong Kong, China yesterday with the hope of repeating their solitary success in 2007.

The tournament sees 13 teams participating which includes powerhouses like India, Pakistan, Australia and England. It is being revived after a seven-year hiatus with South Africa being the last winner in 2017. Organised by Cricket Hong Kong it will be held at Hong Kong’s Tin Kwong Road Cricket Ground from 1-3 November.

The present team captained by all-rounder Lahiru Madushanka comprises Lahiru Samarakoon, Nimesh Vimukthi, Sandun Weerakkody, Dhananjaya Lakshan, Tharindu Ratnayake and Thanuka Dabare. Ratnayake and Dabare are the only uncapped national players. Sri Lanka Cricket Executive Committee member and Tournament Committee Chairman Samantha Dodanwela is accompanying the team as the Manager.  

The team that won in 2017 was led by Indika de Saram and comprised Saman Jayantha, Jeevantha Kulatunga, Dilhara Lokuhettige, Kaushalya Weeraratne, Anil Rideegamannagedera and Ranga Dias. They defeated an All Stars team featuring players such as Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Shane Warne in the final.

Sri Lanka finished runner-up in 1993 and 2004 on both occasions to England.

Pakistan, England and South Africa are the most successful teams of the tournament having won the title on five occasions each.

Sri Lanka opens their fixture on 1 November against Oman at 8:45 a.m. followed by a second match against Bangladesh at 2:10 p.m.

Saturday will feature the Bowl Matches and the Quarter-finals and Sunday will be Bowl Matches, Plate Semi-finals, Semi-finals, Bowl, Plate and Cup finals.
