Shane Warne acknowledges the cheers after taking his 500th Test wicket at Galle

Sri Lanka Cricket in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism has decided to dedicate the first Test match to be played between Sri Lanka and Australia to Cricket Legend Shane Warne.

One of the greatest cricketers to have played the game, Warne passed away in March this year, much to the shock and grief of the entire cricketing world.

Shane Warne has been one of Sri Lanka’s fiercest rivals on the field and a dearest friend off it. He was an instrumental figure in helping rebuild Sri Lanka Cricket following the Tsunami devastation in 2004.

The first Test match between the hosts and the touring Aussies will be played at the Galle International Cricket ground on 29 June.

Tourism Minister Harin Fernando confirmed with NewsWire that Cricket Australia has confirmed that Warne’s wife and family members are also expected to attend the Warne memorial Test match. (Newswire)
