Sri Lanka Sevens rugby outfits (men’s and women’s) will not lock horns in the South Korean leg of the Asia Rugby Sevens 2021 which will kick off on 4 September in Incheon as per the Asia Rugby calendar. National players plus the officials who were vaccinated are very likely to receive their second dose in mid-August, which will allow them to fall into a bio-bubble in order for Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) to conduct the Inter Club Sevens, which will take place at the Racecourse rugby ground in Colombo in September.
SLR national selectors are expected to soon afterwards name the pool of players who will participate in the second and third leg of the AR Sevens, which will take place in UAE on 19 and 20 November (second leg) and 25 and 26 November (third leg).
SLR is also scheduled to host the AR Under-19 Top 4 in December, that too in Colombo at the Racecourse ground on 5, 9 and 13 December, among the defending champions Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Taipei and South Korea. With the Advanced Level examinations ending only in early December, this event is tipped to be pushed back further to early January 2022.
