Three Sri Lankan boxers won Silver Medals at the ‘King of the Ring’ International Boxing Tournament which took place in Sweden yesterday. Trinity boxer Attaab Manzil, Vidyartha’s Hansaja and Jaffna Boy Hartley College, Jaffna (81 kg) Sanjuan stamped their class in the three-day event which featured some top class youth boxers from hosts Sweden, England, Norway, Finland, Scotland, Portugal, Ireland, Gambia, Uganda, Senegal, Canada, India, Jordan, and Lebanon. 

Trinity College, Kandy’s Attaab Manzil, one of the most scientific boxers at the Stubbs Shield who was outstanding in the event caught many eyes over the globe beat a boxer from Canada and went on to beat an England player in the second round before going down in a close battle for Gold against a Jordan player. 

Attab comes from a sporty family where his father represented the national outfit in table tennis. Attab also led the College Under-16 rugby outfit plus did table tennis as his pet game coming from his family blood. Sanjujan from Jaffna coming from less facilities too stamped his class in his three games winning two for them along with Vidyartha College boy Hansaja. Other boxers on tour are Kavisha Manathunga (St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy – 52kg), Dheerananda College, Pilimatalawa S.M.K.S. Bandara (52 kg) and Stubbs Shield Best Boxer Chethiya Ekanayake, Nisal Rangana Bandara (49 kg) of Peradeniya MMV and Vimuk Hettiarachchi (56 kg) of Royal College, Colombo. 

Lahiru Senarathne is the Head Coach of the outfit assisted by Ibunu.
