Sri Lankan Para team take wings to World Para Athletics Championship in Dubai

Sri Lankan Para contingent led by Dinesh Herath will take wings to Dubai early hours of Sunday (5) to take part in the World Para Athletics Championship to be unfolded in the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates from 7-5 November.

This event will be a crucial one for the Sri Lankan athletes as it will give them an opportunity to qualify for the Paralympics 2020 to be held in Japan.

Sri Lankan Para athletes will also have an opportunity to bring some glory to Sri Lanka as they have done in recent past.

“We have selected the best athletes and hope they will deliver results by winning some medals. We have good opportunity to do so,” said Lt. Col. Deepal Herath who will take the responsibility of the team as the team manager.

 

Dubai is ready

 

Dubai is set to host the World Para Athletics Championship 2019, a major competition in the Para athletics season this year.

With the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games coming up, more than 1,500 Para athletes are heading to Dubai this month for their last chance to gain a spot in one of the biggest sporting events around the world.

Taking place from Thursday, 7 November until Friday 15 November, the World Championship will be held at the athletics stadium of the Dubai Club for People of Determination.

Athletes from more than 120 countries are expected to take part in the competition, with the UAE team being made up of 18 players, nine male and nine female.

Looking to watch all the feats of strength? Sports fans around Dubai can head to the athletic stadium to watch the action and support their home teams.

This will be the ninth edition of the World Para Athletics Championships, with others held in London, Britain, with more than 1,150 athletes from 90 countries competing at the London Stadium venue of the 2012 Paralympic Games.
