Sri Lankan shuttlers victorious at Badminton Asia Regional Championship finals

Sri Lanka’s Pulina Wellalage, Shenuk Samararatne and Varangana Jayawardena clinched Gold following wins over their Iranian counterparts at the Badminton Asia Regional Championship finals held in Fujairah, Dubai.

At the Zayed Sports Complex, Wellalage of St. Sebastian’s College defeated won the men’s singles title by defeating Adil Sourati with a score line of 21-18, 21-09 in the final.

Then he partnered with his schoolmate Samararatne to defeat the Iranian pair of Sourati and Seyed Mohammad Hosseini in straight sets (21-13, 21-16) to clinch the doubles title.

In the girls’ singles final, a student of Lumbini College Jayawardene, defeated Aida Enayati 21-13, 21-16 to clinch Gold.

Former national champion Chandrika de Silva was the manager on tour.
