Stuart Broad |
England’s Stuart Broad became only the second fast bowler to breach the 600-wicket mark in Tests, after James Anderson.
He was on 598 at the start of the fourth Test in Manchester when England opted to bowl first and dismissed Usman Khawaja in his first spell to get to 599. He came back to remove Travis Head after the tea break to reach the milestone.
Anderson, who has 688 Test wickets to his name, had conquered the landmark in 2020 against Pakistan, and is the only fast bowler above Broad in the highest wicket-takers list in Test cricket.
Broad, 37, is the highest wicket-taker in the ongoing Ashes series with 18 wickets (as of achieving the landmark) and has performed consistently well for England.
Broad’s 600 wickets have come at an average of 27.57 and consist of 20 five-wicket and three 10-wicket hauls. He has the most number of wickets against Australia (149) in 39 matches.
Australia are currently leading the Ashes 2-1, having won first two Tests before England made a comeback at Headingley to keep the series alive.
