Suhiru Anthony, a seasoned rugby player, has announced his retirement from club rugby, bringing an end to a remarkable career that spanned over 15 years representing Navy SC, Kandy SC, and CR & FC.
He is one of the players to be part of three clubs that won the League during his playing career.
Anthony first made his mark in the sport at St. Peter’s in 2009 and 2010 before joining the Sri Lanka Navy rugby team in 2011. He played for the Navy until 2014, after which he became a key player for Kandy SC from 2014 to 2020. His impressive performances earned him national recognition, and he represented Sri Lanka in multiple years, including 2010 through 2018 and again in 2024.
Throughout his career, Anthony played in various international tournaments, competing in Monaco, Hong Kong, Malaysia, South Korea, India, Dubai, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines. His contributions to the sport were highly regarded, and he played alongside notable teammates such as Roshan Weerarathne, Gayan Weerarathne, and Fazil Marija at Kandy SC, as well as Rohitha Rajapaksa during his time with the Navy.
Though he announced his retirement from CR, he will be available for national selections. (SJ)
