Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma will captain India in the two white ball series in Sri Lanka

Suryakumar Yadav has been named India’s T20I skipper for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, the BCCI confirmed on Thursday while announcing the squads.

While Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the entire tour, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been included in the ODI squad.

The selectors have also named Shubman Gill the vice-captain of both squads after he recently led India in the Zimbabwe tour. This is a significant development considering Hardik Pandya was India’s designated deputy in the ODI World Cup in 2023 and the recently concluded T20 World Cup.

It was reported recently that Pandya’s fitness issues could prompt the selectors to not elevate him to captaincy and the 30-year-old has skipped the ODI leg of the tour.
