St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy came out victorious at the 102nd Stubb Shield Championship which took place at the Jayathilaka Stadium in Nawalapitiya recently.

The Kandy school got the better of all others in all four finals for the 15th straight year. Royal ended as second best with Dheerananda MV, Pilimathalawa coming third number some remarkable performance with less facility under their belt at home. Trinity too ended in the top 5, in a sport which was neglected some time back but is making a bold comeback under their youth coach, Lahiru Senarathne. They won One Gold with Attaab Manzil winning the junior event plus another 4 Bronze and a Silver. Kamal Denagama won a Silver in the 69 kg under 20 event. Meanwhile Bronze were won for Trinity by Waruna Bandara, Hamdan Faizal, Miranga Subasinghe and Zerik Zakeer.

Lt Col (Retired) Hemantha Weerasinghe, Vice president of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka, a former Sri Lanka boxing product of St. Sylvester’s, was the chief guest.
