TFAB Cricket Sixes and Inaugural Netball Tournament 2018 a resounding success

The annual TFAB Cricket Sixes organised by the Trade Finance Association of Bankers (TFAB) was held recently at the NCC Grounds, Colombo 7, for the eighth consecutive year.

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Association, TFAB organised all events during the year in grand style. Celebrations included the inaugural mixed netball tournament, with the participation of 5 major banks to add colour to the traditional Trade Cricket Sixes.

Seventeen teams comprising of staff working in the Trade Finance divisions of commercial banks enthusiastically participated to battle in the Cricket Sixes for the TFAB Challenge Trophy. 

Keen competition was witnessed throughout the cricket tournament, with Commercial Bank and Union Bank taking the spotlight, entering the finals through hard-fought victories in the league round matches, quarter-finals and semi-finals. In the final, Union Bank beat Commercial Bank to become the winner of the TFAB Challenge Trophy. Chamil Liyanage of Union Bank was adjudged the best bowler, while Ershad Rashmishab of Amãna Bank was adjudged the best batsman. Anas Nagoor of Amãna Bank was adjudged the Player of the Tournament.

The inaugural Inter-bank Mixed Netball tournament was conducted on a league basis, with the top two teams entering the final. Hatton National Bank became the champions by beating Bank of Ceylon by 10 goals to 7 after trailing 4 goals to 6 at half-time. Sashika Samarasinghe of Hatton National Bank was awarded the Netball queen.

 TFAB Past President and 20th Anniversary Committee Chairman Parama Dharmawardane was the Chief Guest and gave away the prizes to the winners, whilst TFAB President Manjula Goonawardena gave away the prizes to the Runners-up.
