Asia Rugby Under 19 Championship 2018
Hosts Taipei edged out Sri Lanka 18-15 on the opening day of the Asia Under 19 Rugby Championship 2018, which kicked off at the Municipal Stadium in Taipei yesterday.
At the short breather, Taipei led 8-5.
Taipei’s tries were scored by Wen Cheng Lin, Cheng Kang Chang, and Wei Lun Lin, with Sean Gilgawey putting over the penalty.
Sri Lanka touched down through Ifham Fareed and Kalindu Nandila, while the penalty kick was taken by Tuan Zamil and the conversion taken by Mubeen Faleel.
In the first match of the day, another upset was created when the Koreans beat defending champions Hong Kong 17-13.
Sri Lanka will meet Hong Kong, and Korea will meet Taipei, on December 15 in their second group matches. (SJ)
