In a thrilling finale at the EFC Cricket Sixes Tournament, Team Scan emerged as the champions, clinching the trophy in a match that epitomised skill, strategy, and sportsmanship.
The tournament, which marked the 10th anniversary of Trico Logistics Ltd., was held at the iconic St. Benedict’s College Grounds, bringing together over 100 participants from various logistics companies on Sunday.
The Hall of Fame celebrated several standout performances. Danushka Priyadarshana from AMJ Logistics was honoured as the ‘Best Bowler’, and Sarath Kumara from Team Scan was recognised as the ‘Best Batsman’. The ‘Player of the Tournament’ award went to Dehan Fernando from Team Scan. A token of appreciation was presented to the panel of umpires from the Professional Cricketing Umpires of Sri Lanka.
ASB Thunder secured third place, with their award presented by Lighting World Director Mario Gunasekara. The runner-up position was claimed by AMJ Lions, with their award presented by Trico Logistics Ltd. Managing Director Gamini Kannangara. Team Scan emerged as the champion, taking home the trophy after a thrilling final.
The event featured 33 exhilarating matches, each showcasing a blend of strategy, skill, and sheer willpower. The tournament was not just a game but a celebration of the industry’s spirit, demonstrating that amidst deadlines and deliveries, there is always room for play and camaraderie.
Notably, each team was required to include at least one woman, highlighting the event’s commitment to inclusivity. The presence of female players introduced new challenges and dynamics, and next year, the requirement will increase to two women per team to further promote gender diversity.
As a significant player in Sri Lanka’s logistics industry, Trico Logistics has played a crucial role in the country’s export sector. The logistics sector in Sri Lanka, valued at approximately $ 1.5 billion, is on an upward trajectory with a projected growth rate of about 5.6% annually over the next five years, according to the Sri Lanka Logistics and Freight Forwarding Annual Report 2024.
In this thriving yet competitive environment, Trico Logistics has not only kept pace but has led the charge, setting new benchmarks for the industry and redefining service excellence.
Trico Logistics Ltd. Director Don Lakwin Kannangara highlighted the event’s focus on inclusivity, stating: “Logistics isn’t just about moving goods – it’s about moving forward together. Today, we’re proud to see the women of our industry stepping up, and we’re committed to seeing even more of them on the field – and in leadership roles – in the years to come.”
The tournament was supported by a range of valued partners, including KayJay Security, Diligent Cargo Services, DMT Logistics, Global Kings Logistics, Green Trade, Shippers’ Academy Colombo, PC Stationaries, Wings Logistics, Western Dynamic Shipping, Tokyo Trading, Lighting Trading, Epro Solutions, and Sakthi International. Silver partners included AMJ Transworks and the Association of Container Transporters, while Colombo Logistics and Lighting World also contributed as key partners.
In his speech, Gamini Kannangara reflected on the company’s journey, emphasising the values of honesty and hard work. “We have seen a lot in these ten years – growth, challenges, and everything in between. What’s remained constant is our collective responsibility and commitment to excellence. Today, as we celebrate through sport, we also celebrate the spirit of teamwork and innovation that drives our industry forward. Always be honest and work hard – these are the principles that guide us.”
As the cricketing dust settles, Trico Logistics looks to the future with ambitious plans. Positioned as a significant player in Sri Lanka’s logistics sector, the company is preparing to expand its regional footprint.
