Ted Muttiah heads CR in centenary year

Ted Hiran Muttiah, the former Royal skipper of 1982, Kandy SC, Upcountry, CR & FC and Sri Lanka representative, was re-elected unopposed as the President for a second term of office at the Ceylonese Rugby and Football Club (CR & FC), a foundation rugby club

in Sri Lanka and long considered the ‘Home’ of Sri Lanka rugby, when it concluded its 92nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) last week.

Former Thomian, CR & FC and national player Savantha de Seram will be their Deputy President. Joining the committee as the Vice President will be the former Trinity rugby and cricket skipper plus Ryde Gold Medalist Tikiri Ellepola. Hard-working Joes Jakque Diasz will continue at the vital position as the Clubs Secretary. Meanwhile the former Royal 1985 scrum-half, CR & FC national player Jehan CanagaRetna will hold the vital position as the Chairman of the Centenary Committee when the Red Shirts celebrate its 100 years in September 2022.

Speaking to Daily FT, Ted said: “The general committee is to be commended for its astute management of club affairs through a very difficult year of operations. Although there was no rugby season, the club has weathered the economic storm clouds influenced by the pandemic to position it on a strong platform for the future.”

“As a rugby club, we look forward to the resumption of the leagues season. However, it is necessary that appropriate safeguards are in place to ensure the welfare of players. A good starting point is to have all players vaccinated,” added Ted.

The club kicks off its centenary year in September 2022. A series of events are planned to mark the occasion, including an international sevens tournament pending sanction by Sri Lanka Rugby.
