Former Royal rugby captain, Kandy SC, Up Country, CR and FC and Sri Lanka centre three-quarter Ted Hiran Muttiah was elected unopposed as CR & FC’s 45th President at the club’s 91st Annual General Meeting which took place at Longdon Place recently.

A versatile and utility backline player during the 1980s, he is remembered as a classic centre three-quarter with superb ability to read the game in the heat of battle and fearless in defence.
Ted led Royal in rugby football in 1982 and two years later went on to represent the national team in 1984 under C.P. Abeygoonawardena at the Asiad in Japan. Ted made his debut for Sri Lanka at the ninth rugby Asiad in Fukuoka, Japan, scoring two tries against Malaysia to secure Sri Lanka’s only win. Since then he has served on the Council of Sri Lanka Rugby (2016 and 2017), CR & FC Deputy President (2016, 2017 and 2019) and the Royal College rugby Advisory Committee (2015 and 2016).
He is currently the Chief Commercial Officer of South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) and has been a strong proponent in support of developing women’s rugby.
