Teejay Lanka pips Abans to clinch MCA “E” division 25 over League trophy

Revenge was sweet for Teejay Lanka PLC, as they beat Abans Group by 37 runs, in the 21st David Pieris Group of Companies sponsored, “DPGC” Challenge Trophy – MCA “E” division 25 over League 2024 Final, concluded on Saturday 3 February at the MCA Grounds. 

Abans Group, who remained unbeaten up to the Final, earlier on beat Teejay Lanka by 36 runs in their league outing. 

Teejay Lanka, won the toss and opted to bat, posted a respectable 169 for 08 in 25 overs, riding on a run a ball, 91 runs opening stand by Prince Jayasuriya (43 in 53 balls, inclusive of 06 fours) and Udayanga Madushanka (47 in 40 balls inclusive of 2 sixes and 5 fours). 

Abans Group, chasing a target of 170 runs to win in 25 overs (RPO – 6.76) was bamboozled by Teejay’s leg spinner, Tharaka Dinesh Ratnayake, who finished with brilliant figures of 5 for 34 in 5 overs was picked as the Man of the Match by the Match Referee, Chandana Mahesh. 

The other 3 special awards based on performance up to the Semi Finals, went to, Ravindu Lakshan, from Brandix Essentials, Best Bowler with 15 wickets for 168 runs; Shalin de Mel from George Steuarts Health, Best Batsman, with 302 runs, inclusive of a century and 94 runs; Sasith Maduranga from Abans Group, Man of the Series, with 232 runs and 10 wickets.

At the post tournament awards presentation which followed the Final, awards were given away by the Chief Guest, David Pieris Motor Co. Ltd. Deputy Chief Officer (Parts and Accessories), Guest of Honor Manjula de Alwis, David Pieris Leisure Ltd. Director and Chief Executive Officer Gribson Hapukotuwa, MCA President Mahesh de Alwis and MCA Chairman, Tournament Committee, Lakmal de Silva.
