Peterite Centenary U20 Rugby Sevens Tournament 2023 will be played on 14 and 15 October with the participation of 16 teams at Bambalapitiya.
Kick-off is scheduled at 8:30 a.m.
The colourful International Schools sevens will give the much-needed exposure for the local schools boys who will play in 10 teams, while there will be 6 overseas teams in this event. Two teams each from Australia and UAE while one team each from Bahrain and Malaysia will lock horns in the two-day event. Sixteen teams would be divided into four groups, and each team would play three group encounters on Day 1.
One of the Australian outfits will have Aden Ekanayake the Aussie Under 18 national skipper playing in this tournament which is going to be a very good exposure for the local lads.
Day 2 will see the knockout stages being worked off with the Cup, Plate, Bowl and Shield encounters taking place. To attract a large crowd entrance for school boys will be free of charge on both days. All overseas teams and the three outstation teams will be provided with free accommodation while water and meals will be provided free of charge on both match days for all the 16 teams.
The tournament draw took place yesterday with Malaysian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and Maldives Badli Hisham Adam being present at this occasion.
