Test cricket returns to RPS after five years

  • Pakistan to play 2 Tests in Sri Lanka

Test cricket returns to the R. Premadasa Stadium after a lapse of five years when the second Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan takes place from 24-28 July.

The Pakistan cricket team is due in Sri Lanka on 6 July to play a two-Test series which is part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle.

Following a three-day warm-up match at the Colts grounds, Pakistan will play the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Cricket Stadium followed by the second Test in Colombo.

The R. Premadasa Stadium last hosted a Test match in 2017 against Zimbabwe which Sri Lanka won by four wickets.

A total of nine Test matches have been played at this venue since 1992 with Sri Lanka winning four, losing one and drawing four.

Pakistan last played at this venue in 1997 when the Test was drawn. They last made a tour to Sri Lanka in 2015 and won the three-match series 2-1.

16 - 20 July: 1st Test match at GICS, Galle

24 - 28 July: 2nd Test match at RPICS, Colombo
