Professional golfer, N. Thangaraja showed his supreme class when he ended on top position at the Sri Lanka Golf Ranking Tournament which concluded at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) recently.
The final day of the Sri Lankan Golf Ranking Tournament, seasoned professional golfers displayed their mastery, securing the top three positions. N. Thangaraja emerged triumphant with a total score of 278, showing his dominance throughout the tournament. Veteran golfer Anura Rohana had to be satisfied with number 2 position with 280 while K. Prabagaran who took an early lead on day 1 dropped down to number 3 position with 284 strokes.
Mithun Perera opted out of this event in order to prepare himself to represent their nation at the upcoming Asian Games in China later this month.
In the Amateur segment, Uchitha Ranasinghe demonstrated his prowess by retaining the number one position. His impressive total score of 287 not only secured his victory but also earned him valuable World Amateur Ranking points. Following closely behind was B. Vinodh, fresh from his successful stint in the UAE, with a total score of 292. Reshan Algama, who stole the spotlight with a well-deserved third position finish with a total of 293 strokes. Algama has consistently secured top position in this segment finished on top no less than three occasions out of the four attempts.
The junior golfers have their sights set on representing Sri Lanka at the 14th Singha Thailand World Junior Golf Championships in October 2023 and the 2nd Selangor International Junior Championships in Malaysia in November 2023. The teams for these prestigious events will be announced shortly, and the nation eagerly awaits the unveiling of the talented young golfers who will carry Sri Lanka’s hopes on the international stage. According to reliable source 2 amateurs would be selected for the Thailand tour while 4 of them in the same segment will book their flight to Malaysia in the near future.
