Kandy SC’s play maker, Tharinda Ratwatte will lead the Sri Lanka Sevens outfit at the 19th Asian Games 2023 which will take place in Hangzhou, China.
He is one of the most knowledgeable rugby players at present who showed his supreme class at the Birmingham Commonwealth Rugby Sevens 2022.
Out of the 38 players who underwent training under Phil Greening from UK were shortlisted and the final squad of 12 members were selected by the new selections committee headed by Sudath Sampath. As World Rugby has given the green light for the national outfit to participate under the National Olympic Committee (NOC) flag. This was communicated through e-mail to NOC and copied to SLR and the Ministry of Sports but not to the Stabilisation committee which is not recognised by World Rugby.
