By Shamseer Jaleel
Third-year coloursman and crack second rower, Thinethra Dodangoda will lead the Isipathana College 1st XV rugby outfit for the 2025 schools’ rugby season.
Thinethra, a powerhouse in the forward pack, has been a key figure in Isipathana’s rugby success since 2023, known for his dominance in the lineouts and relentless work at the breakdowns.
This appointment adds another accolade to Thinethra in 2024, who served as the vice-captain of the Sri Lanka Under-18 team to Malaysia showing his leadership skills and ability to perform under pressure on an international stage. With his experience and tactical acumen, he is well-poised to lead the Green Shirts as they aim to continue their legacy as one of the top rugby teams in the country.
Thinethra will have a talented group of players backing him this season, including key performers such as Sethum Rajapaksha, Abdul Ahamed, Avishka Hiran, Sithupa Bometh, and Shaakib Zumri. This mix of experienced players and rising stars is expected to bring dynamism and depth to Isipathana’s game, making them a formidable force on the field.
Isipathana College, widely regarded as the “Kings of School Rugby” in Sri Lanka, has a rich history of producing exceptional rugby players and fielding dominant teams.
The outfit is coached by Danushka Botheju.
