Thomians claim Lady Jayathilake Shield in thriller against Joes

Thomians pulled off a close 26/24 win against St. Joseph’s College in their Dialog Schools Rugby League 2023 game which was played at Mount Lavinia yesterday.

Joes score two early tries through Chamod Seneviratne and Shanuka Alahakoon with Ruchitha Rodrigo added one try conversion. Thomian fullback Yehan Bulathsinhalage, put over three penalties two of them were from a 50 metre distance.

After the turn around Sachinthaka Waidyanayake touched down and Ruchitha Rodrigo added the extras. Bulathsinhalage who continued his good kicking form put over the 4th penalty for the home team to cut the deficit to 7 points at 12/19. Burly Joes skipper powered his way for a try and to take the lead at 24/12.

Next it was the turn of Thomian skipper who scored off a sweeping three quarter move. With Marasinghe yellow carded the home team took the advantage of one extra man scored through a forwards rush through Mohamed Hakeem. Bulathsinhalage added the extras to take the game 26/24 for the Thomians.
