Thomians edge out Wesley

Thomians had a winning start for the Dialog School Rugby League 2023 when they edged out Wesley 19/13 at Mount Lavinia last weekend.

At the short breather Thomians led 11/7.

With this win Thomians accounted for the Sir Oliver Goonatilleke Shield.

Two early penalties by experienced Yehan Bulathsinhalage took the home team into a 6/0 lead. Thomians went further ahead through Dehan Senaratne’s try. Wesley scored on stroke of half time through Chamod Nimsara with Adul Haadhi added the extra 2 points to cut the deficit to four points at 7/11.

After the turn around Bulathsinhalage and Haadhi penalty a piece took the scores to 14/10 but the lead of the hosts remained at 4 points without a change. Running in to late second half Haadhi put over another penalty to cut the deficit to one point. But it was Mohamedmed Hakeem powerful forwards move shattered the Wesley outfit when he went over Thomians second try and seal the game 19/13.
