Action at S. Thomas’ College versus Kingswood College match

S. Thomas College ended their Dialog Schools Under 20 rugby League with a comfortable win over Kingswood College by 36 points (6 tries, 3 conversions) to 8 points (1 try, 1 penalty) at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium yesterday.

At the short breather Thomians led 17/8.

It was a slow game of rugby by both teams, involving in number of handling errors with the Randles Hills team party for majority of them. The pace of the game too was very slow. Kingswood on their part played better than their earlier games but lacked the finishing touches.

Thomians who opted to rest majority of their regular players as their head coach Shamly Nawas opted to give opportunity for the youngsters since this would be their last league games and they will not move forward to the next round. They had ample opportunity to go for a big score but their ball handling was not so good by their forwards as it hardly reached the three-quarter line.

Thomians scored their tries through Akira Perera (2), Reshane Dwight, Chariya Kurukulasuriya, Hasitha Ramanayake and Savantha Perera scored the Mount Lavinia School tries with Yehan Bulathsinhalage converting three of them. Meanwhile, Dharmasena scored Kingswoodians only try with Imanka Ishara putting over a solitary penalty.

Referee Aruna Shantha.

Both teams will not move any further in the league with the Kingswoodians ending last while Thomians will end either on No. 4 or 5. Royal will move forward to next round along with either Joes or Trinity. This would be decided after the Joes vs Antonians encounter today (1 Aug). A win will see Joes through, If the game ends in favour of the Antonians or a draw will take the Trinitians through for the next round. (SJ)
