140th Battle of the Blues
S. Thomas College Mount Lavinia was in a strong position when they took four Royal second innings wickets while conceding only a 10-run lead for the Reid Avenue outfit at the end of day two at the SSC Grounds in Colombo yesterday.
Thomians, in reply to Royal’s first innings score of 158 runs, made a bold reply, taking a splendid lead of 138 runs, ending with 296 on the board. Kalana Perera, who took six wickets for the Mount Lavinia school, scored a brisk 62 while ample support came in from Umayanga Suwaris (62) and Ryan Fernando (60), who supported their mammoth first innings score.
Taking lease of the wicket for a second time, Royal ended day two on 148 for 4, having a lead of 10 runs with another six wickets in hand. Unless there’s a big partnership by the Reid Avenue school, the Thomians look set for an early end to this game in their favour.
