Thomians showed some top-class rugby, showing that they are a different class this season, when they won the All Island Under-16 Elite 10-A-Side Rugby Tournament 2024, beating Kingswood College 26/0 in a one-sided affair in the Cup final played in front of an appreciative crowd at the Trinity College Rugby Stadium in Pallekele last evening.
Thomians led 14/0 in the initial half, scoring two more tries to end the game in their favour 26/0. Mayanka Dias (S. Thomas’) was the Player of the Final. The outfit from Mount Lavinia was coached by Omalka Gunaratne and Anushka Perera. Peterites had only the Shield to take home, overcoming Panadura Sri Sumangala 32/0, while Joes won the Bowl, defeating hometown rivals Ananda 14/0. In the Plate encounter, it was Isipathana who beat Dharmaraja 5/0 in a closely fought encounter.
