S’ Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia became the first holders of the inaugural Ranjith Fernando/Kumar Boralessa trophy when their school cricket match against St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena ended in a draw at Mt. Lavinia yesterday.
By virtue of taking a first innings lead the Thomians were declared winners. Replying to the Bens first innings of 179, the Thomians resumed at their overnight score of 109-2 declared at 232-9 with Dineth Goonewardene missing out on a hundred by six runs. Samindu Peiris was the pick of the Bens bowlers taking 4/34. The Bens were once again at the receiving end in their second innings being shot out for 118 of which skipper Sarujan Shanmuganathan contributed 92. Darien Diego troubled the Bens batting finishing with figures of 4/28.
Shanmuganathan was adjudged the Best Batsman and Diego the Best Bowler.
