The top 32 qualifiers of the 130th Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship 2017 geared into a match play format and the top four seeds made their way into the second round.
The mild upset of the day was when Nuwara Eliya local lad D.G. Jayasena defeated the number 6 seed Navinda Ranga, going down at the 19th hole in the sudden death play-off.
Jayasena, one down coming to the 18th, pulled off a vital birdie to square the match and force the match down the 19th.
Kartik Sharma (India), the number 1 seed, defeated Ishan Dilranga of Sri Lanka Navy 4 and 2, to meet Pria Hemantha from the Victoria Golf and Country Resort in the second round.
Seed two N. Amarapadma brushed aside T. Akash 7 and 5. Sisira Kumara, the third seed, won his match 6 and 5, while the fourth seeded Dhruv Sheoran from India had a comfortable 5 and 4 win over Selvakumar of the Royal Colombo Golf Club.
Tuesday will have two rounds with the second round and quarterfinal worked off in the morning and afternoon respectively.
