Sri Lanka Under 19 Rugby squad under Thulaib Hassen will leave for Chongqing, China, on 8 December. Sri Lanka will play China on 11 December. The outfit will consist of 26 players selected in two days with Viper (Jnr) Gunaratne appointed head coach and Rajiv Perera operating as a forwards coach. Rohitha Rajapakse will be the three quarter coach of the youth outfit.
Sri Lanka will need to win both their matches in order to get their promotion to Top 4 in Asian Under 19 Rugby for 2020 in order to work their way through for the 2021 Youth Rugby World Cup. Only once has Sri Lanka qualified for the Youth World Cup in its entire history, which occurred two decades ago in Chile.
