The Traveller Global dethroned the 2022 and 2023 Winner Sri Lankan Airlines with a convincing 2/0 win in the final of the fourth Travel Trade Sports Club (TTSC) Futsal Five-a-side Football Tournament 2024, sponsored by Butterfly Vacations and Infinity Vacations, which concluded on Sunday 2 June at the Club Fusion Sports Arena, Boralesgamuwa.
19 teams pooled into six groups were engaged in a round-robin during the first round, consisting of 21 matches. At the completion of the league stage, the following eight teams advanced to the knock-out stage: Sri Lankan Airlines, Cinnamon ‘Red’, Acorn Group ‘A’, Waters Edge, Cinnamon Grand Colombo, Traveller Global, Hayleys Aviation, and Voyzant Ltd.
Results of the knock-out stage:
Quarter-finals: Sri Lankan Airlines beat Cinnamon ‘Red’, 3/1; Acorn Group ‘A’ beat Waters Edge, 3/0; Traveller Global beat Cinnamon Grand Colombo, 5/1; Voyzant beat Hayleys Aviation, 3/1 (subsequently the match was awarded to Hayleys Aviation, as Voyzant was disqualified for violating tournament rules and playing conditions)
Semi-finals: Sri Lankan Airlines beat Acorn Group ‘A’, 2/1; Traveller Global beat Hayleys Aviation, 3/0
Playoff for third place: Acorn Group ‘A’ beat Hayleys Aviation by coin toss; Full time: Nil/all, Penalties: 5/all
Final: Traveller Global beat Sri Lankan Airlines, 2/0
Special awards: Shareeq Ahamed (Man of the Final) and Mohamed Haizer (Man of the Tournament), both from Traveller Global
The awards were given away by Chief Guest Butterfly Vacations and Infinity Vacations Chairman Ajit Benjamin, Guest of Honour Butterfly Vacations and Infinity Vacations Director and General Manager Gayani Liyanage, TTSC President Dilshan Gnanapragasam, and the two TTSC Committee Members and Tournament Co-ordinators, Amri Noordeen and Dhanushka de Alwis.
