Trinity College, Kandy clinched the Roger Rodrigo Challenge Cup after emerging victorious at the 13th Lanka Lions Inter-School Tag Rugby Sevens tournament worked off at the Sharjah Wanderers Club ground last week.
The Trinity Lions outplayed St. Peter’s to register a 35-0 victory in a one-sided final and won the title for the fifth time.
The tournament is an annual competition organised by the Lanka Lions Sports Club involving 20 teams, including UAE schools.
The Trinity Lions beat Isipathana 14-7 while in the second semifinal encounter the Peterites got the better of Zahira College 21-0.
Trinity skipper Dilshan Kelaniyangoda was named Player of the Tournament.
Trinity won their first round matches easily, overcoming St. Benedict’s College ‘A’ 77-0, St. Joseph’s College 49-7, Zahira College 21-5 and Ananda College 35-7.
Wesley College accounted for the plate while the Rajans clinched the bowl. St. Anthony’s College did not return empty-handed as they clinched the spoon.
Sri Lankan referees Dilroy Fernando, Dharmapala Nimal, Gamini Indrasena and Irshad Ariff officiated at the competition.
