Trinity, Royal, Joes, and Vidyartha opt out of President’s Trophy Knockout Rugby

Third-placed Royal College and fourth-placed Trinity College in the Dialog Schools Rugby League 2024 will opt out of the Knockout Rugby Tournament due to their Blue Ribboned Bradby Shield encounters which are to be played on 24 August (first leg) in Colombo, and the return leg on 7 September at Pallekele. 

Meanwhile, both Joes and Vidyartha too are likely to opt out due to injuries to their players.

The Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SSRFA) is likely to award defending champions (St. Peter’s) and Isipathana direct entry to their respective semi-final encounters.

St. Peter’s College will defend the title under Head Coach Sanath Martis, while Saliya Kumara’s Green Shirts will go all out to end on top and give a good end to Kumara’s coaching stint at the Havelock Town school.

All matches will be played at the Sugathadasa Stadium with the kick offs scheduled for 31 August and 1 September, while the semi-finals are scheduled for 4 and 5 September. The grand final will be on 8 September.

Teams confirmed to be participating from the top 10 are St. Peter’s, Isipathana, Vidyartha, Wesley, DS Senanayake, S. Thomas’, and Zahira.

Quarter-finals: 31 Aug and 

1 Sept.

Semi-finals: 4 and 5 Sept.

Final: 8 Sept.
