Trinity player Venuka Kumarage wins the ball in line out
Trinity College warmed up for the knockout rugby when they beat S’Thomas College by 31 points (4 tries, 4 conversions, 1 penalty) to 20 (2 tries, 2 conversions, 2 penalties) in their Dialog Schools Under-19 Rugby League encounter which concluded at Mount Lavinia on Saturday.
Trinity drew first blood in the 6th minute of the game through Chamod Dehigama with Shan Althaf adding the extra 2 points. Trinity scored again through Jevin Samarakoon and Althaf added the extras to take 14/0 lead. Yehan Bulathsingalage was on target with a penalty kick but Trinity went further ahead through their prop, Senula Alexander try and Shan added the extras to take a clear 21/3 lead. Thomians reduced the lead through Bulathsingalage penalty and Mohamed Hakeem try. Bulathsingalage conversion took the half time break with Trinity leading 21/13.
After the turn around Chamod Dehigama’s ghosting move ended in his second try and Shan added the extras to take the scores to 28/13. Thomians who never gave up scored their second try through Dewshan Narathne. Yehan added the extras to cut the deficit to 8 points. But the early lead by Trinity took them through when Shan put over another penalty to take them through to 31/20.
Referee was Hasantha Weranaga.
Trinity juniors ended a clean sheet winning the Under 16 outing 7/3. Their outfit was led by Udan Wijekoon and coached by Priyantha Gunarathne.
