Trinity player Raveen Ilangaratne on attacking way
Trinity College bounced back to winning ways when they beat Vidyartha College by 20 points (2 tries, 1 penalty try, 1 penalty) to 10 points (2 tries) in their Dialog Schools Under 20 Rugby League encounter which concluded at the Bogambra Stadium yesterday.
At the short breather Trinity led 12/0.
Trinity got back to its winning ways with plenty of possession with them in the entire game. Almost the entire first half they dominated play. Trinity who played better brand of rugby but failed to convert the territory in to Points.
Though ball handling was tough both sides stood up. Chamendra Dhanapala looked rock solid in defence and in attack he split the opponents all over the park. Vidyartha played well in patches and ended in defending most part of the game. The game was played under wet and difficult condition for play.
Chamendra Dhanapala, Rushen Bandaranayake, Anuhas Kodituwakku, Abith Jameel, Attaab Manzil, and Dehan Waragoda played their hearts out for the Trinitians while Dilshan Balasuriya, P. Dullewa and G. Gajanayake played well for the Vidyartha outfit.
Trinity drew first blood in the 18th minute of play which ended in their skipper, Attaab Manzil touching down in a sweeping three quarter move.
Vidyartha collapsed the scrum number of times ending by conceding a penalty try for Trinity who took the lead to 12 to nothing at the short breather.
After the turn around too Trinity dominated and scored through a forwards rush ending in their burly prop forward, Thenuk Fernando scoring for Trinity.
Trinity added one penalty by Mohamed Shan to take a clean lead 20/0. Vidyartha hit back in the last 10 minutes of the game and looked threatening to score in each of their moves.
They ended in scoring two spectacular tries by Dilshan Balasuriya within a space of 5 minutes. Vidyartha got into rhythm but sadly ran out of time in the end. Referee Praneeth Weranga.
