Two Western province rugby referees to officiate at Bangkok International Rugby 10s

The Western Province Rugby Referees’ Society has announced that two of its esteemed referees — Priya Suranga and Thuwan Azeez have been invited to officiate at the prestigious Bangkok International Rugby 10s and it will be held on 15 and 16 Februar in Thailand.

Priya Suranga (Referee Grade – A1)

Priya Suranga, studied at Science College, Mt. Lavinia, Sri Lanka, has over 17 years of experience as a top-level rugby referee. A former captain of the college’s 1XV rugby team, Priya holds qualifications in Indigenous Medicine and Pharmacology and is a Doctor of Alternative Medicine (CPU-USA). With certifications (NVQ Level 4) as a sports masseur and physical fitness trainer, Priya has also served as a rugby coach for several leading schools, including Science College, Wesley College, St. Joseph’s College, and St. Peter’s College.

Priya has previously participated international tournaments such as ARFU 7s and Super 7s Sri Lanka, and has refereed matches in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Dubai. He participated to Labuan International 10s Tournament last year as the CMO (Coach Match Official) and also he will participate as a CMO for the Bangkok International 10s. He currently serves as a referee manager for the Western Province Rugby Referees Society.

T. M. A. Azeez (Referee Grade – B1)

Thuwan Azeez, an alumnus of St. Anthony’s College, Wattala has more than eight years of rugby refereeing experience.

He joined to SL Navy in 2002 and played A Division from 2003 to 2005. Also played B Division from 2008 to 2015.

Azeez is actively involved with the Western Province Rugby Referees Society and this is the first overseas tournament.
