Sri Lanka suffered a stunning two-wicket defeat at the hands of UAE in a Group B match of the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup at Dubai yesterday.
Invited to bat first Sri Lanka scored 220-9 with Dinura Kalupahana contributing an undefeated 56 off 87 balls (2 fours) and captain Sineth Jayawardene 49 off 65 balls (3 fours, 2 sixes).
Sri Lanka at one stage were 168-7 and only a 51-run stand between Kalupahana and Vishwa Lahiru (26) got them past the 200-run mark.
UAE in their run chase was helped by a fine innings of 75 off 88 balls (4 fours, 3 sixes) from Tanish Suri and from skipper Aayan Afzal Khan (2/38 and 33).
In the other Group B match of the day, Bangladesh beat Japan by nine wickets.
Earlier in Group A, Pakistan beat India by eight wickets, and Afghanistan beat Nepal by 73 runs.
