Unbeaten Kandy and CR to lock horns at Nittawela

The Inter Club Rugby Season 2023/2024 will come to its end of round 1 when two unbeaten clubs in the league so far, defending champions, Kandy Sports Club and CR and FC lock horns at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium on 21 January.

Kickoff is scheduled at 4 pm.

Havelock Sports Club ending on number 4 position will lock horns with Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club who are currently placed 8th and last in the points table. Led by Azmir Fajudeen, Park Club should be home without much trouble but still their ranking is unlikely to change with this win. Sailors will depend on their school leavers to give out their best to impress in their last round 1 game.

Police and Air Force could be an interesting one with the Cops on the declining stage while the Air Force outfit showed good improvement in their game in the latter part of their first round encounters. The winner will take the top spot in the Plate segment. Both teams got an outside chance to secure the plate win in round 2.

CH already climbed up to 3rd place and secured their berth for a Cup segment in round 2 to play against Army Sports Club at Panagoda. CH too not having played their best rugby in tandem will be looking for 3 wins in round 2 in order to win the Cup segment.

The top position and unbeaten teams in the League, both Kandy Sports Club and CR and FC will lock horns at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium which could be the game of round 1 among the clubs. A full house is expected in the rugby crazy city of Kandy and many Longdon Place Club supporters too could be in the central hills for this encounter.

Kandy will be banking on their experienced three quarters while CR got some outstanding school leavers.
