Unbeaten, Nawaloka Hospitals poised to claim MCA ‘C’ Division 50 Over League

Nawaloka Hospitals PLC, led by the seasoned Captain Samith Rubery, is set to play against LOLC Holdings PLC in a thrilling battle for the coveted ‘NDB Trophy’ in the finals of the 4th National Development Bank (NDB)-sponsored MCA ‘C’ Division 50 Over League Tournament 2024. The grand showdown is scheduled for Sunday, 29 September, at the Bloomfield C&AC grounds, Reid Avenue, with the play commencing at 9:45 a.m.

Nawaloka Hospitals PLC dominated the League Round, finishing at the top of the leaderboard with 3 wins and 1 no-result. Their victories, achieved through the DLS method, came against formidable teams: David Pieris Group of Companies ‘A’ (4 wickets), MAS Unichela (28 runs), and Commercial Bank PLC ‘A’ (27 runs). The clash with LOLC Holdings was halted due to poor weather conditions. In the knock-out semi-finals, Nawaloka Hospitals continued their winning streak, beating David Pieris Group of Companies ‘A’ by 42 runs.

Star performers for Nawaloka include, Thaveesha A. Kahaduwaarachchi, who amassed 376 runs in 5 innings with 5 half-centuries, Thiwanka Kekulawala, who contributed 175 runs in 5 innings, took 12 wickets, and notched 2 half-centuries, alongside Lakshan Ruwantha (6 wickets) and Samila Nadeesh (5 wickets).

LOLC Holdings PLC secured 2nd place in the League Round with two wins and two no-results, defeating Commercial Bank PLC by a massive 117 runs and MAS Unichela by 12 runs. Weather disruptions saw their matches against Nawaloka and David Pieris Group of Companies washed out. In the semi-finals, LOLC stormed into the finals with an 82-run victory over MAS Unichela, courtesy of the DLS method.

LOLC’s key contributors include Lahiru Attanayake, who smashed a half-century in 3 innings, alongside standout bowlers Sayuru Udukumbura, Vinod Madushan, and Dhanushka Udara, all claiming 6 wickets each.
