Powering the game of cricket, the national ICT giant, Sri Lanka Telecom won the twenty-five overs “G” Division Mercantile Cricket Tournament in 2018 claiming the only unbeaten team in the Group. The ‘Sri Lanka Telecom’ team won the final match by 7 wickets to win MCA Championship 2018 competing against ‘Fair First Insurance’ team. SLT opening batsman Nirushan Ramachandra was named the Man of the Match (Final).
SLT team won against ‘Mobitel’ team by 7 wickets and qualified to play the finals. Also SLT beat ‘Deutsche Bank’ & ‘Alaris Lanka Company’ teams to qualify for the semi-finals and quarter finals respectively.
The tournament conducted by the Mercantile Cricket Association, with the participation of 56 top corporates in Sri Lanka, representing eight groups was held at multiple cricketing grounds in Colombo and suburbs.
In the league stages Sri Lanka Telecom Cricket beat ACL Cables Group, Butani Capital, Amana Takaful Insurance, Commercial Credit, Alliance Finance Company PLC and A Baur & Company to stay unbeaten.
SLT team Captained by Kasun Amarasinghe with Vice Captain Deshaja Yukthi gave the well-needed leadership. Furthermore, Dinush Wijewickrama along with Harsha Weerasinghe and Kelum Kulathunga gave the team the administrative support it needed in driving it towards success. Also, SLT Team Coach, former Sri Lanka “A” Team Player – Padmanath Perera guided the team towards this success.
