Under-19 cricketers get motivational talks from Lanka cricket legends

  • ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup kicks off on 19 January

Sri Lankan cricketing legends Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Sanath Jayasuriya spoke to the Sri Lanka Under-19 cricketers who are due to leave for South Africa next week to take part in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

During a nearly one-hour meeting, Sangakkara and Jayasuriya, SLC’s cricket consultant shared their experiences and also motivated the young cricketers, building up their confidence before their departure.

The National Cricket Team’s Consultant Coach Mahela Jayawardene also spoke to them on a different platform providing inspiration to the youngsters who will be taking on the best players in the world in this age group.

The Sri Lanka Under-19 team recently suffered humiliating defeats in the Under-19 Asia Cup losing to team’s like UAE and was knocked out in the first round of the competition.

The Under-19 World Cup will be held from 19 January to 11 February. Initially, it was to be hosted by Sri Lanka, but it was moved to South Africa following the ICC’s suspension of Sri Lanka Cricket due to political interference.
