Under-24 good yard stick for national XV-a-side selections

Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) organised XV-a-side league rugby tournament for the Under-24 segment will kick off today with Peterson SC taking on Field Force at Thurstan College ground.

Kick-off is scheduled at 4 pm.

The Under-24 XV-a-side returns to the country after a lapse of nearly a decade. This is a good move by SLR which will be a feeder with talented school leavers for the national XV-a-side outfit.

This tournament is taking place for the first time in Sri Lanka where the youth rugby club and provincial youth rugby teams are participating in one tournament.

The teams that are taking part are Central, Uva, North Western, North Central, Southern and Western Province Youth, Peterson, Field Force, Old Wesley Sports Club and Science Maroon. The tournament which will commence today will end in one month on 4 December.

• Uva Vs Western Province at Vincent Dias Ground Badulla
• NWP Vs Central at Maliyadeva Ground Kurunegala
