Union Bank staff excel at mercantile sports championships

More than 20 staff members of Union Bank that represented the bank at mercantile sports championships that concluded recently, made significant  ahievements at these events. 

 

Mercantile Athletics Championship 2019 

  • Hashini Ariyarathna – Gold Medal for 400 m
  • Layesha Rathnayake – Awarded Best Athlete in Novices Category with a Gold Medal for Triple Jump, Bronze Medal for Long Jump and a Bronze Medal for 200 m
  • Rajinda Silva – Silver medal in Shot Put 

 

36th Mercantile Novices Badminton Championship 2019

  • Nimasha Perera – Women’s Singles Winner 
  • Dasun Wickramasekara and Pathum Dushmantha – Winners of Men’s Doubles
  • Nimasha Perera and Dasun Wickramasekara – Winners of Mixed Doubles 
  • Rohan Peiris, Dinesh Balendran and Yohan Alahakoon – Runners-up: Men’s Over 40 ‘C’ Division 
  • Charith De Abrew, Pathum Dushmantha, Dasun Wickramasekara, Mihiraj De Alwis and Yohan Alahakoon – Runners-up: Men’s ‘D’ Division 
  • Pathum Dushmantha, Nimasha Perera and Dasun Wickramasekara – Winners of Mix Event ‘E’ Division  

 

Mercantile Hockey Tournament 2019

Union Bank’s team comprising of Captain Yohan Lewke, Vice Captain Visal Rupasinghe, Lakshitha Fernando, Anest Loren, Shakthiruban Mahendran, Sahan Ekanayake and Janitha Jayawardena particpated in the tournament for the first time in the bank’s history and emerged ‘E’ division runner-up. 

 

8th Mercantile/Government Services International Rating Chess Championship 2019

Union Bank was placed 22nd and 28th out of 54 companies at the chess championship, where Sajeeth Prasanna and Pathum Malawiarachchi of Union Bank received their international ratings from Fédération Internationale Des – World Chess Federation (FIDE). J.P.M.P. Jayasekera of Union Bank was ranked 49th out of 186 players.  

 

Asian Rugby Tournament 

Uchitha Jayasuriya of Union Bank was selected to Sri Lanka National Men’s Rugby Team and represented Sri Lanka for the Asian tournament which was held in Chinese Taipei back in June.
