Up Country Planters will field a rugby outfit when they participate at the Inter Club Rugby Sevens 2022 which will take place on 8 and 9 October at the Race Course in Colombo.
Former Ananda rugby player (1987/88) and Old Anandian Sports Circle President, Sri Lanka Rugby Exco, Manujula Samarakoon who initiated this team speaking to Daily FT said: “Dimbulla and Dickoya were playing in the A division tournament in 1970’s and even in early 80’s but later this was stopped by them due to work.
“We will continue to participate in the sevens and later on hoping to play in the XV a side tournament which is good for the players who joined planting after representing their school. Even they can go on to represent the country later on. So, this outfit playing in sevens which could be nearly after five decades a rare occasion for this team to re-enter the playing field with top end rugby players around the country.”
Team will be led by former Kingswoodian and CH player Malith De Silva and coached by former Kingwoodian and top-class referee A.C. Tennekoon.
