Uvais Odayar no more

Former Trinity College Kandy 1957 Cricket Captain Mohamed Uvais Odayar passed away three days ago in Kandy. His janaza took place at the Katugastota Muslim Burial Grounds.

Uvais won his cricket colours in 1955 and went on to lead the outfit two years later in 1957. He also played rugby football and represented his school in athletics.

He was a planter and represented the ‘Up Country’ teams for many years. His father (S. A. Odayar) represented Trinity at Bradby from 1928-30, Uvais Odayar (1955-1957), and his sons Ikram Odayar (1984-85) and Riza Odayar (1988-89). 

Ikram who won his rugby ‘Lion’ went on to represent the Sri Lanka Under-19 outfit at Taipei during the Junior Rugby Asiad. He also won the Boxing ‘Lion’ while at school. He went on to represent CR and FC and later on at the Rugby Asiad in 1990.
