The Volkswagen Beetle Owners Club has made arrangements to hold the 20th Annual ‘Pride of Ownership’ drive on Sunday, 31 March.

This is a landmark event of the club as the Pride of Ownership Drive has carried on unbroken for the past 20 years and this year’s drive will coincide with the celebration of 100 years of the Hilton Hotel Chain which has been the traditional Start of the Pride of Ownership Drive and the Club has assured over 100VWs will attend this year’s drive breaking a record attendance at all events organised by the Club. The Club has also invited members from the Kandy Club who will make an epic journey from the Hill Capital to attend the event.

The Pride of Ownership Drive is the most important annual event organised by the Volkswagen Beetle Owners Club which is held each year in the month of March and is attended by members and their guests who are assured of a fun filed day of activities and each year the committee ensures to improve on the activities of the day as the policy shared amongst the committee is that a happy member will ensure to maintain a happy ‘Beetle’.

The Drive will commence from the Hilton Colombo which has been the traditional Start of this annual event and will sport a flag depicting the 100 years of the Hilton on each VW which would resume the celebration in grand style.

The Drive would proceed in parade form from the Hilton Colombo along the Galle Road on Sunday, 31 March and proceed southwards with the resumption of a friendly Rally that would kick-off from Moratuwa and end at the finish, being the luxurious Hotel Haridara which belongs to the Oak Ray Hotel Chain located in Wadduwa. The hotel has put together a fabulous array and will ensure an excellent day of entertainment under the palms which is to be followed by a fellowship buffet lunch and the awards ceremony.

The Club is grateful to the main sponsor of the event, the LOLC Group who has come forward to support the activities of the Club.

As in all previous events the Beetles generate a sense of ‘Fun in the Sun’ and a beach location has been the firm favourite and we are rest assured that all members and their guests would enjoy the day’s activities at the Resort with the grand Indian ocean as its back-drop that would add colour to the day’s activities. This event has brought about immense interest amongst both locals and tourists who flock to witness the line-up of VW’s en-route to the resort location. VW Beetles of all Ages, Karman Ghias, Vans, a few rarities with the likes of a Trekker and Variants would come together with the New Beetle to make this event a resounding success.

All those who are owners of VW Beetles who are interested in joining this event may contact the Club Secretary, Nalin Perera on 0717268998.
